If you’re not connected to a domain but experiencing this same problem, you can try this fix but there are no guarantees that it will work. This solution works for users who are connected to a domain. This is something slightly similar to the dynamic lock problem which had to be resolved by removing the devices used to lock/unlock devices, and then adding them back again. If after adding the DWORD value, Windows 10 doesn’t recognize your PIN or saved fingerprints, remove them all and add them again.

Windows 10 should still remember your PIN and your fingerprints after the update however, that’s not the case for everyone. Ideally, adding the DWORD value back to the Windows Registry should resolve the problem. This seems like a bug but it was done deliberately.

Select the Sign-in Options tab, and the fingerprint and PIN unlock options should be enabled. Restart your system and then open the Settings app. Name it AllowDomainPINLogon, and set its value to 00000001. If it’s not there, right-click System and select New>DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Here, look for a DWORD value named AllowDomainPINLogon. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System You can paste it in the location bar in the Windows Registry Editor and jump straight to it. Open the registry by typing regedit in Windows search, or in the run box. In order to edit the Windows registry, you need administrative rights. There’s a pretty simple fix for this but it involves editing the Windows registry. When users go to the Settings app to enable fingerprint and PIN login, the options are greyed out. For Windows 10 users connected to a domain, it seems the fingerprint unlock and PIN login has stopped working.

Validity hasn’t verified operation of HP ProtectTools and the native Validity drivers on a Virtual Machine. The Windows 10 April Update resulted in dynamic lock devices no longer working for some users. It can be done the other way around, however, some of the high-security features HP ProtectTools has will not work 100% from a Virtual Machine, such as Device Access Manager, Full Volume Encryption, and Preboot Authentication.

Validity suggests that if you want both HP ProtectTools and LastPass, you must install the WBF drivers and FMA then install LastPass on a Virtual Machine. If that happens, you will need to uninstall the WBF package, and then repair or uninstall and re-install the Validity native drivers called “Validity Fingerprint Sensor Drivers” in Programs and Features. If you install the WBF drivers, it will interfere with the operation of the fingerprint feature in HP ProtectTools. To keep HP ProtectTools and use the fingerprint features for Preboot Authentication, Full Volume Encryption, Windows logins and website logins, then they must use the native Validity drivers ONLY. This is by design, as the native drivers are secure drivers and “take ownership” of the sensor, meaning no other application can use it.

Unfortunately, the driver used for HP ProtectTools can not be combined with the WBF driver for LastPass integration.
